Trans Advocacy Theatre Collective at PTO 2026

Very proud of our collective, Trans Advocacy Theatre Collective, for presenting two experiential workshops at the Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed conference 2026 in Minneapolis.

We focused on invoking ancestors into the space as a way of healing our cops-in-the-head (internalized oppression, as positioned in Augusto Boal’s Rainbow of Desire) and presented two workshops, one for queer and trans individuals and the second exclusively for Black and Brown bodies.

We evaluated these sessions with brief feedback forms, so we’re hoping a paper will be written based on these reflections. While I’m not fully sharing what went in those sessions, they made me so spiritually and soulfully full. I’m always grateful to be in spaces where I learn as a facilitator and embrace the vulnerability that people around me show with their stories. Interestingly, not more than two years ago, I would have shied away from wearing my own emotions on my sleeves as a facilitator. But today, I embraced fully that I resonated with the experiences of my participants and ‘healed’ (I’m using this term loosely) alongside them.

It was my first time working with Pink, Candace, and Jude, and we jammed so well together. We’re also very excited to continue collaborating together on future projects, so that’s something in the pipeline which I’m thoroughly thrilled by.
